How to Pay for ChatGPT Plus with Crypto

ChatGPT Plus has the same problem as Claude — cards only, no crypto checkout — but one important difference: OpenAI does not sell gift subscriptions the way Anthropic does. That removes the cleanest route and leaves virtual cards and API credits, which changes the advice materially.
The key difference: no gift codes
Anthropic sells gift subscriptions — a prepaid code redeemable on any account. That is what makes the "pay someone in crypto and receive a code" model possible for Claude. OpenAI has not offered an equivalent consumer gift product for ChatGPT Plus, which means anyone selling you a "ChatGPT Plus gift code" is selling you something that does not exist in that form.
Route 1 — Crypto-funded virtual card (the main one)
Without a gift product, the virtual card is the primary route for ChatGPT. Top up an issuer with crypto, get a card number, use it at checkout. Cost is roughly 5–8% over list once top-up, issuance and FX are counted, and it auto-renews.

- You lose the ChatGPT product surface — memory, the mobile apps, Sora, and the bundled tooling.
- You gain model choice: most clients let you point at OpenAI, Anthropic and others from the same interface.
Route 3 — Ask someone to pay for you
Without a gift product this means giving someone your account and having them enter their card, which puts their statement behind your subscription and their dispute rights behind your access. It works, but it is a relationship arrangement rather than a product, and it is worth being explicit with each other about what happens if either of you wants out.

On payment access alone, Claude is the easier one to buy without a card, because the gift product exists and is designed to be redeemed by someone other than the buyer.
